Sunday Lunch and Springtime Drive
(April 12, 2011)
After hibernating through snow after snow, we couldn't wait to get out and about. Following our wonderful lunch at Maria's charming little villa, we decided to take one of our favorite short drives down Bitney Springs Road to Pleasant Valley Road, past the Bridgeport covered bridge, French Corral, make a right on Birchville Road and eventually end up on Highway 49 for the return trip home.
Some happy critters enjoying the sunshine and green grass.
What was the movie filmed here?
General Chuck Yeager's ranch is here somewhere. The first man to break the sound barrier once commented, "It's your duty to fly the airplane. If you get killed in it, you don't know anything anyway."
The old Bridgeport Covered Bridge over South Fork of Yuba River was built in 1862. Looks like we're not the only ones out and about today!
The brick walls of the old Wells Fargo Express office built in the 1850's and equipped with iron doors, and window shutters, which once guarded millions of dollars in gold against would-be robbers
More "bloomin' brush."
This wild turkey's making his great escape up the bank.
From here we'll head back across the Yuba River to Nevada City and home. It feels so good to be on the move again.
