The Annual Fertig Reunion

(Sunday July 9, 2008)

We spent Saturday night in the Wheatland City Park where they have spaces and electrical hookups for RVs and other campers. The only cost is whatever you want to donate. The park has a tennis and basketball court, picnic area, swings other things children love. It's a beautiful park for young and old. Many older folks like to walk there. This is where the Fertig family has their annual reunion the Sunday closest to the Fourth of July.

Sunday morning we noticed people were already arriving at the picnic area so we drove to town and picked up a fruit salad and fried chicken for the occasion. Everyone brings something.

Hi Donnie....You're certainly pretty in pink today.

And here's my fun computer pal Mary. She's a camera bug too, and does lots of family research. Turns out she and I are sort of shirt-tail relatives to former President Nixon's Milhouse family. Mary and her husband Calvin are looking forward to building their new home on property they own. In her video you'll notice a couple of rock formations on the mountain. At certain times of the day and lighting, the one on the left resembles a face. I laughingly remarked that it reminded me of the Nome King in the movie "Return to Oz."

The playground has this cute lion drinking fountain.

Calvin gave some history and statistics of the event and the growing Fertig family.

The competition games for the children are so much fun.

This was the egg on the spoon race. This sweet little girl is looking at me like she's not sure what it's all about.

Looks like a shoot-out to me.

The sack race is about to begin.

And here are some last minute instructions before the pop the balloon contest.

This little girl and boy are the last ones left. Who will get popped?!

The wagon race gets pretty wild going around the tree and back. The idea is to go fast without tipping over.

The final fun is the piņata. Quite a crowd lines up to try their luck beating up the dragon.

Finally it breaks and.....

There's a mad scramble to clean up the loot....that happens to be candy.

See how nice playground is. Earlier a bunch of the teenagers were laughing and going round and round on the merry-go-round. Pretty soon some felt a little sick.

As the picnic draws to a close, some decide it'll be fun to have a water fight.

Larry, Sharel and Mel about to exit stage right.

Okay....smile. It's time to say goodbye. What a fun day it's been. We have a couple of more places to visit before we wrap it up.

Kathy didn't make it to the reunion, so we caught up with her at home.

Finally, Celia was at home. It was so nice to visit with everyone again. Tomorrow we'll be driving to Montana where we plan to visit Glacier National Park.
