We were invited to attend grand-daughter Katie's recital at David and Audree Hay's home on North Bloomfield road. All the participants are music students of June Breen.
After a brief introduction, the program is about to start. Each participant will sing or play two selections, but I'll only mention one.
Murray sings "Harbor Lights," and a couple of other songs. It was time for intermission, and lunch. June made her students promise not to disappear after lunch.
The food was delicious. Especially the strawberry-rhubarb pie that was made by Ken's wife Cheryl. When I mentioned it was Mel's favorite, Ken made sure I took a piece home for him.
After lunch, we are treated to some violin-cello Beethoven by Don and Joanne.
Wilfried sings a "Merry Widow Medley" in German. Later, he asked a couple of us if we understood German. I was only able to comprehend the "Da" that popped up throughout the medley.
Melissa plays "A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square." She plays the piano with much feeling.
Angie concludes the recital with her wonderful guitar rendition of "Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring"and "The Village." It was a wonderful afternoon. As June said, this is what people used to do before computers and television.
