At age 95 "Uncle Pete" passed away peacefully. He was born September 12, 1914 in Mariental, Russia to George and Paulina Gossman, and was the eldest of nine children. At the age of nine, Pete and his family moved from Russia to Lemmon, South Dakota where he grew up. He was drafted to the U.S. Army and served as a Corporal during World War II. In 1949, he moved to Stockton, California where he met and later married Rosalie Settlemoir. Together they owned and operated several mom and pop grocery stores, most recently the Waterloo Market. Pete also worked for H & R Block and O. G. Packing. He enjoyed collecting coins, doing crossword puzzles, talking politics, and was an avid reader. He loved being outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Peter was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Rosalie who lives in Stockton, daughters Jean (Douglas) Shipman and Susan (Michael) Streff, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. "Uncle Pete" will be dearly missed by all who were lucky to have known him.
