A lil' March Meander

Wednesday March 3, 2010 greets Grass Valley with a flurry of snowflakes. You're listening to Red Button's singing "Strange Things are Happening." Mel often sings a few of the lyrics while we're on the go. I love it!

"Ho-ho. (Ho-ho.) He-he. (He-he.) Ha-ha. (Ha-ha.) Strange things are happening. ...Strange things are happening....I once had a teacher, who flunked me in history. She asked, "Who shot Lincoln?" I answered, "Don't blame me!" Ho-ho. (Ho-ho.) He-he. (He-he.) Ha-ha. (Ha-ha.) Strange things are happening....Strange things are happening....I gave golden earrings, to someone who's sweet sixteen. Now I'm so embarrassed, her ears are turning green. Ho-ho. (Ho-ho.) He-he. (He-he.) Ha-ha. (Ha-ha.) Strange things are happening...Strange things...I went to the movies, and witnessed the strangest scene. One kid brought a T.V. and tried to dial a scream. Ho-ho. (Ho-ho.) Hey-hey. (Hey-hey.) He-he. (He-he.)...Strange things...strange things...Since girls wear those blue jeans, My troubles just never cease. What looks like my nephew, turns out to be my niece. Ho-ho. (Ho-ho.) He-he. (He-he.) Ha-ha. (Ha-ha.) Strange things are happening...Strange things...Ah, this is Rocky Buttons, and I wanna tell you, The strangest things happen to me."

Friday we drove to Case Tractor to get some hydraulic fluid and parts for our loader. Springtime's apparent from the plum trees blooming from the Colfax highway near Bear River to Sacramento. This bloomin' tree is in the Case parking lot.

Is it because it's Friday that there's so much traffic? We're heading back to Auburn where we'll stop at our favorite In and Out Burger before heading up  80 to Colfax.

Talked Mel into swinging through Colfax to see what might be new.

I've always liked the quaint little town.

Some pretty daffodils in the old train depot parking lot.

Out of town, and back on the highway, I had to take this photo of the Red Frog. Never stopped in, but have always thought it was cute.

We haven't had dinner at Giovanni's for some time. The food used to be wonderful. One time we did, my back was facing a fairly inebriated man at the table behind me. He was relating an X rated love affair he'd had to his companion. I could hear him, but Mel couldn't. He must have embarrassed himself, because when we finished eating and were ready to pay for our dinner, the waitress told us that the man named Fred apologized for his behavior by paying for our dinner. It was quite a surprise.

When I was a young girl driving by this place, there was a large, very sway backed  horse that was always grazing here.

The view of Rollin's Dam from the Bear River bridge. As teenagers, we spent many summer afternoons swimming below the little dam spillway in view of the old Narrow Gauge railroad trestle (in photo below) before Rollin's was constructed. Of course that was long after the railroad ceased to operate.

Back at Glenbrook shopping area the new Walgreen Drug store is nearing completion.

And here's the Union Newspaper. We've been subscribers for over fifty years.

Last but not least is Wolf Creek tumbling alongside Idaho Maryland Road a couple of miles below it's origin as a spring on the slope of Banner Mountain  where we live.
