Re: W. H. Fippin Blacksmith
Shop
The Blacksmith Shop was built in the
mid-1850's by blacksmith William H. Fippin and carpenter
John Single. They repaired tools, buggies and wagons and
put new shoes on horses and mules. The building now is a
display for artifacts from the 1850's era such as tools,
hardware and various wagon parts. The original antique
bellows operated a forge and huge anvil are on display.
The shop is opened for public viewing including live
blacksmithing demonstrations on special occasions.
For the last few years the
Rough & Ready Fruit Jar Pickers,
a local musical group, have donated a significant amount
of money to the Chamber of Commerce. All of the money
donated by the Fruit Jar Pickers has been used exclusively
to restore the Fippin Blacksmith Shop. We've added a third
photograph showing the latest restoration efforts in 2003.
The Fruit Jar Pickers perform every Sunday from 10
AM until Noon in the building next door to this one and
have an average audience size of about 75. They enjoy
playing music and listening to their audience sing along
to the old-time songs. Bring your own chair and enjoy
their free performance.
