Fourth of July Parade 2012
evada City's downtown
parade began at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the top of Broad Street, and moved
through the center of downtown. More than 100 entries and hundreds of
spectators were on hand for the fun. Cheryl, Sue and friends were
involved. Michele took most of the photos of the parade. After the parade
people could continue the celebration under the pines at the Nevada County
Fairgrounds in Grass Valley and enjoy live music, entertainment, food and
refreshments. As usual, there were fireworks around 9:30 p.m.

Nevada City Soapbox Derby cars took first place. The cars that rolled
down Broad Street Wednesday included a man driving a hot tub and squirting
bystanders with water. Participating cars were part of June's second
annual derby race, a community event that serves as a fundraiser for
Pioneer Park in Nevada City.
The NEO Club float took best individual entry in the parade. NEO is a
Grass Valley-based youth outreach organization in Grass Valley with a
focus on healthy choices.

Another wonderful Fourth of July Parade completed. Thanks to all those
who put forth the effort to make it a success. It's always a good
reminder of how lucky we are to live and enjoy the human rights and
protections advocated in
our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Awesome when you think of what the
Founders went through, and the sacrifices of so many lives to keep it
going. Freedom isn't free.
